Melissa Doherty
Mrs. Doherty began teaching in 2002. She started her career as a 3rd grade teacher for Keystone Local Schools. She went on to become a Title I reading teacher there for several years. In 2014, Missy joined the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District as a Reading Specialist at Central School but with the closing of Central, joined the team at Highland Drive.
Missy graduated from Kent State University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. In 2006, Missy earned her Master’s Degree from Kent State University in Curriculum & Instruction with a Reading Specialization. Since then, she has also earned her Reading Endorsement (K-12) and 4-5 Generalist Endorsement, as well as completing numerous other graduate courses.
When she is not at school, Missy loves spending time with her husband, daughter, and son. They love cheering on Cleveland sports teams!
Fran Eichelberger
Fran has been a classroom teacher (first, second, and fourth), literacy coach, and reading specialist. She began her teaching career in Baltimore County Maryland as a first grade teacher. After completing her master’s, Fran worked as a reading specialist with students in grades K-5 in Maryland and then Pennsylvania. When Fran and her husband moved to Charlotte, NC, she stayed at home with her children. When she returned to work, Fran was a classroom teacher and then literacy coach. In 2012, she and her family moved once again to Cleveland. She has worked in Brecksville as a Reading Intervention Specialist ever since.
Fran completed her undergraduate work at Towson State University and graduate degree at Loyola. She is certified to teach general education in grades K-5 and reading in grades K-12. Most recently, Fran completed an intensive two-year program to become a Certified Academic Language Therapist.
When not teaching, Fran loves to spend time with her husband, three children, and dog Charlie Paddington. She, of course, LOVES to read and is passionate about teaching children to become lifelong readers.
Kristin La
Kristin La has been teaching in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights School District for 18 years. She taught Special Education for the first seven years and has been a Reading Specialist since then.
Kristin graduated from Ohio University with BA in Special Education grades K-12. She received her Master's Degree in Literacy from Baldwin Wallace College.
Kristin loves the outdoors. She enjoys riding her bike and walking in our beautiful Metro Parks. She loves to golf and reads any chance she gets. Coffee is her favorite beverage and therefore loves seeking out new coffee shops. Most of all, Kristin cherishes every minute spent with her her 10 year old daughter and husband!
Tracey Salyers
The 2020-2021 school year will be Tracey's 9th year of teaching, and second in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights district.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Ohio University back in 1997. She then stayed home with her daughter and son when they were young. She often volunteered at her kids’ school and ended up enjoying it so much, she went back to school. She earned a Mild-Moderate Intervention Teaching License (K-12) and Reading Endorsement (K-12) from Notre Dame College.
She has the Level 1 Wilson Reading System Certification and enjoys learning about the English language. She has also been trained in FUNdations and Just Words.
When she is not teaching, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family and friends.
Jill Tomford
Mrs. Tomford started her teaching career here in Brecksville-Broadview Heights in 1994. She began by teaching French at BBHHS, but over the years she has also taught French & Exploratory Spanish at the Middle School as well as ESL at the High School, Middle School, and various elementary buildings. Since 2012, Jill has been teaching reading as a Title I Reading Specialist. After the closing of Central School, Jill divided her day between Hilton Elementary School and Highland Drive Elementary School. Currently, Jill teaches all day at Highland Drive Elementary School. No matter where she teaches, she loves working with her students, sharing her passion for reading and writing.
Jill graduated from the Ohio State University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science in French Education and a TESOL endorsement. In 1999 after a few years teaching, Jill earned her Master’s Degree from Kent State University in Curriculum & Instruction. In 2007, Jill added a Reading Endorsement from Cleveland State University to her teaching license. Understanding the importance of staying up to date in her profession, Jill has continued to take various graduate courses over the years.
Outside of her professional life, Jill enjoys spending time with her husband, two sons, her daughter, and their pets (two dogs and two guinea pigs). Although at various stages of life, when together, the family loves to travel, spend time relaxing, or watching/ playing a variety of sports. When solo, reading continues to be one of Jill's favorite pastimes.
